A new generator was required at the Water Treatment Facility for emergency backup power and peak shaving ability. The generator control was designed to supply emergency power to the facility upon loss of utility power and activate synchronizing controls to operate in parallel with the utility power for testing and reduction of power use from the utility. This installation connected the generator to the Main Switchboard through use of electrically operated breakers without the additional cost of a separate transfer switch. This allowed complete flexibility for peak shaving, bumpless transfer, or islanded power supply from the generator. It also allowed for total flexibility for any loads to be powered by the generator or loads to be shed using the plant PLC.
